About Troy Dunn
Troy Dunn is the second youngest of 5 children and began riding calves at age 9 before competing in his first open bull ride at age 17. It wasn’t until 1987 that he started to rodeo professionally, winning the APRA Australian Title in 1989.
In 1990 he decided to leave Australia to pursue a career as a Professional Bull Rider, first locating himself to Canada and in 1991 he qualified for his first PRCA National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas USA. It wasn’t until 1995 that Troy’s career would take a turn after delivering consistent performances throughout the year and at the PBR World Finals where he would take the honor of securing his first of 2 World Finals Championships. The second World Finals Title would come 2 years later, which was highlighted by his memorable ride on champion bucking bull Red Wolf for 95 points in the final round.

In the same year he also went onto win the PBR Touring Pro Title, recorded the highest marked ride for the year & was the highest money earner for the season.
1998 was to be Troy Dunn’s year after a stellar season on tour, Dunn had a convincing lead going into the PBR World Finals and even though Dunn was carried out of the arena with a dislocated hip in the first round of competition, the lead he had accumulated through the year and going into the finals was enough for him to win the prestigious 1998 PBR World Championship, a feat to this day that no other Australian has been able to accomplish, whilst fulfilling his career dream to stake his claim on the World Championship Gold Buckle.
It was is 1999 that Dunn made the decision to move back and base himself in Australia, regularly returning to the USA to compete in select competitions, where he continued to qualify for the PBR World Finals for the next five years.
The year was 2005 and at age 38 Troy Dunn retired after qualifying and competing in his last PBR World Finals appearance, where he was acknowledged for his lifelong achievements in the sport of professional bull riding and was presented with the PBR Ring of Honor. It was at this time that the PBR announced they were expanding globally, opening offices in Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Australia.

When the PBR opened an office in Australia back in 2006, Dunn was made President of the organization, then in 2007 he captained the Australian Team at the first ever PBR World Cup which was held at the Gold Coast.
Dunn’s time is shared between raising beef cattle on his 2000 acre property at Bloomsbury, training horses & competing in campdrafting events. Along with his bull riding commitments as Team Australia PBR Global Cup Coach & mentor to the team riders, running bull riding schools and judging at PBR competitions.
